What is Sexual Assault?
Sexual Assault occurs when a person is forced or manipulated into unwanted sexual activity. It can include failed attempts and does not always involve force or threats.
There are many types of sexual violence including rape, child sexual abuse, and can even occur between intimate partners.
1 out of every 6 American women has been the victim of an attempted or completed rape in her lifetime (RAINN)
1 in 5 women and 1 in 71 men will be a victim of sexual assault in their lifetime according to the CDC. (CDC)
1 in 4 Girls and 1 in 6 Boys experience sexual abuse before the age of 18. (NSVRC)
Who are Perpetrators?
Most often rapes are committed by someone known to the victim.
Offenders are overwhelmingly male, ranging from adolescents to the elderly (victimsofcrime.org)
Some perpetrators are female. It is estimated that women are the abusers in about 14% of cases reported among boys and 6% of cases reported among girls. (victimsofcrime.org)
We offer guidance through the legal processes of protection orders and support during court proceedings.
We provide safe confidential housing for women and children in need of immediate safe shelter. We provide food clothing, and toiletries.
We help victims identify safety barriers and plan accordingly to make the safest transition possible.
